NACC: Longitudinal Alzheimer's Disease Research Data

The National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center (NACC) dataset is one of the largest longitudinal resources available for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) research, drawing on more than 56,000 participants tracked over 25 years. Data has been contributed by more than 40 Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers across the United States, creating a harmonized resource.

What the Dataset Contains

The dataset contains:

  • Two available versions NACC version 1 and NACC version 2
  • 56,000+ participants
  • 40+ contributing Alzheimer's Disease Research Centers (ADRCs)
  • 25+ years of longitudinal data collection
  • Data types: neurocognitive and clinical phenotype data, imaging, genetic and genomic data, neuropathology, fluid biomarkers, and pilot data streams

What Researchers Can Do With This Dataset

NACC data supports research into disease progression, risk factor identification, and biomarker validation across the ADRD spectrum. Its longitudinal design makes it well suited to studies tracking cognitive decline over time, comparing clinical and pathological outcomes, and modeling how genetic and biomarker signals relate to disease trajectory. The breadth of data types also allows researchers to combine cognitive, imaging, and molecular measures within a single analytic framework.

How to Access The Dataset

The NACC dataset is discoverable through the AD Discovery Portal and accessible within individually permissioned AD Workbench workspaces at no cost to qualified researchers. AD Workbench provides free compute, virtual machines, and multimodal analysis tools and allows researchers to bring their own code, models, and approved external datasets into their workspace.

About the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative
